MFPs can often retain copies of faxes and scanned documents on their hard drives. Canon offers a variety of solutions to ensure that this information never falls into the wrong hands. The HDD Format feature enables imageRUNNER ADVANCE devices to overwrite everything stored on the hard disk with null data. The HDD Data Encryption Kit uses AES 256-bit encryption to protect all data stored on the internal disk drive.

The optional HDD Data Erase Kit enables you to have your imageRUNNER ADVANCE device configured to erase and overwrite previous job data automatically. There are at least three ways it can be set. Copy or print information can be overwritten once with null data, overwritten once with random data, or — with a DoD 5022.22M Compliant 3-Pass Overwrite for maximum security. Canon solutions also provide for comprehensive drive data protection services when your device reaches end of use for your business.

The optional imageRUNNER Removable HDD Kit enables administrators to physically remove the device's internal hard disk so it can be locked down in a secure place after hours. The drive can then easily be reinstalled for use during normal working hours.

imageRUNNER ADVANCE HDD Data Encryption Kits come equipped with the Canon MFP Security Chip 1.00, which has achieved a Common Criteria Certification of Evaluation Assurance Level 3 (EAL3) for its effectiveness at preventing unauthorized access to data.

Canon provides Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption support for transmissions to and from the imageRUNNER device. Data transmission methods that can use SSL encryption include IPP, Internet-fax, Remote UI, and WebDAV.
