President's Message

Isao “Sammy’’ Kobayashi
President and CEO
Canon U.S.A., Inc.

The story of Canon goes far beyond our innovative products, solutions and services. While we are proud to be a global imaging leader, we recognize that being a truly great company requires much more. It requires us to be leaders not just in our industries, but in our communities and in the world at large. It means doing the right things all the time, not only when it is convenient or when it helps our business.

Our corporate philosophy of Kyosei means “all people, regardless of race, religion or culture, harmoniously living and working together into the future.’’ We don’t just say these words, we use them as the cornerstone of everything that we do. I believe that Kyosei, including our deep commitment to sustainability that began long before environmental awareness became popular, is one of the biggest reasons Canon has not only survived but thrived when other companies failed.

Canon’s success is also due to our unrelenting entrepreneurial spirit. We began as a small camera company in Japan in 1937 and have grown to become a global organization offering everything from cameras that “see’’ in the dark to micro-satellites that orbit high above the earth. We also are creating solutions that are ideal for hybrid workstyles and have expanded our printing technologies to include industrial printers that can print on wood, glass and many other types of surfaces. While our technologies are diverse, all of them are designed to help improve people’s lives.

I am proud but at the same time humbled to be the leader of Canon U.S.A. My passion for Canon comes from my appreciation of the strong principles and values of the company that I have witnessed since joining the organization back in 1990. I see every day as an opportunity to work with our valued employees, customers and business partners to the mutual benefit of all. As much as we have accomplished, there is even more to be done.

I hope to help write the next chapter in Canon U.S.A.’s rich history!
